Kat was then called to the microphone to update us on her activities. She told us that she has had a very sporting week. She has played Soccer, AFL, Golf, Volleyball. She has been here for ten months and only has couple to go. She will certainly be fit when she returns home.
The recently returned brigade included Ed. (Port MacQuarie and other places North) and John Ferguson who has also been enjoying a 50 year reunion with his teachers college cohort.

SERGEANTS SESSION
John Gray continued the great record of Sergeants extracting coinage from all members. Travis Downie was noted at Sprout and About introducing members to Kerry Pascoe. Peter Crozier and the Sergeant had a disagreement (how unusual) at Sprout and About. Both claimed they won the argument. New Board members Rob Nicholson, Richard Rossiter and Bob Willis were fined as was John Smith for not turning his phone off. The rest of us were fined for listening to the Sergeant's Political Nostrums eg. Those who don't read newspapers are uninformed - those that do are misinformed.

SPROUT AND ABOUT
OIC TRAVIS DOWNIE
TEAM: Kerry Pascoe, Greg Conkey, Michael Georgiou, Peter Crozier, Greg O'Hare, John Gray, Neil Pinto, Frank Fuller, Geoff Breust, Tim MacGillicuddy, Phil McIntosh, Ken Taylor. Mal Robertson was a welcome volunteer.
Travis reported a cracking day with a top of 21 degrees. The crowds were down some saying they did not know the market was on and a google search did not list the market. Other feed back indicated that some people thought there were too many markets while others thought there should be more advertising.
Despite the comments 17 stall holders said they would be back next month.
Other feedback was that the Food and Wine container was placed in such a position that it was difficult to get a trailer out of the shed.
Team was great and adaptive with a special thank you to Mal Robertson for coming along even though he wasn't rostered to do so.
STALLS $960
DONATIONS $190.45 including $50 found by Frank Fuller.
INET $ 55
BANKED $1205.45

Rick Priest presented Mark Hillis with a gift to remember his mother who recently passed away. The gift was an Acacia Honeybun which was appropriate as Gwen also had a nickname of honeybun.
MEMBER PROFILE – PP PHIL MCINTOSH
Phil built a picture of himself through stories about his family and his sporting days as a younger man.
His Dad was born in Beechworth and saw service in New Guinea during WW11. He was in the engineer division and helped build a bridge over the Markum River and the Nazzab Runway at Lae. He then became a prison officer at Pentridge Gaol and later Beechworth Gaol. His Grandparents were hoteliers and his Dad grew up in the Pub.
Phil’s mother was born at Rutherglen and was a nurse. Mum worked at the Mayday Hills mental hospital in Beechworth and married his dad in that town.
Phil grew up in Beechworth and played footie (AFL) in the King Valley Myrtleford district. He had a pretty exciting time playing footie as he had a number of minders on the field. Phil was the youngest in the family and had three elder brothers and one older sister. Besides his brothers in the team, three other members were prisoners from Beechworth Gaol who were taken to the footie, along with Phil, by his father who was the Superintendent of the prison. The local cop was full forward.
After completing school and getting a driver’s licence, Phil went to Ballarat where he gained a Bachelor of Education and met his wife Lyn who was also a teacher. After marrying in 1980 he taught at Sacred Heart/St Martins in the Pines and played football with Lyn’s brother Roger.
Phil followed Roger and Lyn’s parents to Geelong and lived in Torquay where he spent many happy hours surfing and playing lots of football. Sadly Roger passed away with cancer just as his son Travis was drafted at 5 in the AFL. Travis Boak is now the Captain of Port Adelaide.
After ten years teaching science and exercise physiology Phil went into a retail business with his brother in law for more than ten years. During this time he lived with his family of now four children in Mildura, Dubbo, Bathurst and finally Wagga.
Twelve years ago Phil left retail and joined Cummins Hendriks law firm where he is the CEO. The firm has 70 staff including 16 lawyers. He is responsible for IT/Knowledge Management and Marketing.
Phil was introduced to Rotary by PP Kevin Watts and for that he is forever grateful. Besides being Past President of our Club, Phil introduced the very successful concept of the Gears and Beers Festival to our club. He is an accomplished cyclist and his contacts in that field have been invaluable. He even attracted the great cycling commentator Phil Leggat to our club. Phil’s brother Garry is also a Rotarian being a member of the Rotary Club of Lynfield.
Phil is a Board Member of the RSL and Commercial Clubs and is the driving force behind the Gears and Beers Festival.
Phil hopes to have many more years contributing to our Club.
