Rotary Information
- Rotary in China

Rotary has a long history in China that dates back to 1919 when the Shanghai club was chartered.
Rotary flourished with 33 clubs throughout the mainland until liberation in 1949, when it became impossible for Rotarians to meet.
In 1952 Rotary International disbanded the remaining clubs.
The Rotary Club of Shanghai was reformed in 2006 and currently there are 16 clubs including 5 provisional clubs throughout mainland China.

Sergeants Session April 12
John Gray was our Sergeant  this week and started by having Cat carry box to reacquaint herself with everyone.
Frank fuller was fined for letting Helen do everything,  Jim Gibson for something to do with Cricket,  James ross for his pink shirt and handbag, Peter MacKinnon for not going with the bikers , Ken Cook for making his second meeting.

John then read the class schedule for an evening class for men organized by WICOE (Women in Charge of Everything).  A copy of this is available by clicking here,

John then read another clever letter from a 70 year old driver regarding his performance on the road.

President's Report

Today we presented the $40,000 cheque to The Wagga Rescue Squad as the major beneficiary of the 2015 Food & Wine Festival. Ken Middleton, the President of the WRS was on hand to receive the cheque.  He invited members to attend the launch of their new Rescue Truck this Saturday, which will proudly support the Wollundry logo.  Steve Jobson from Riverina BMW, our major sponsors of the event thanked our Club for involving his company and pledged continued support of the event.

We also made a Special Award of a Paul Harris Fellow to Rotarian Tim Barter in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Club and the community with the two Festivals we run.  (See Story Below).

The Rotary District 9700 Conference was held over the weekend in Wagga and was considered to be one of the most successful yet with 240 attendees.  Thanks must go to Michael Knight for chairing the inter-club organising committee, together with James Ross, Doug Conkey, Paul Murray and David Byfield - they all worked tirelessly over the past 12 months putting it together. Thanks also to Carolyn Murray and Sandra Legg who also helped out during the conference.

Wollundry received three Awards during the conference - The Community Award for our work with the Wagga Wagga Women's Health Centre and the Youth Award for our work with RYLA.  We were also lucky enough to win the 'noise award' or the Club Roll Call on the Sunday.  Our very own Paul Murray was awarded 'Rotarian of the Year' for the District, largely for his work with Club Runner and keeping the IT running smoothly for all District meetings and conferences.  Well done Paul!

Our Club was also recognised by Mayor Rod Kendell during his address to delegates as being an organisation that contributes significantly to Wagga in many ways including our Beers & Gears and Food & Wine Festivals.

During our meeting today the Club formally approved the $3,000 projects grant for the Cambodia 'Dump School' laptops, which is also being matched by a $3,000 grant from District and another $3,000 from the Cambodia Appeal organisation in Wagga.  I have suggested that our club look to adopt the Orange Daybreak Club's "The Real Schoolies" program as part of the work they are doing in Cambodia.  This would give leaving students the chance to experience a potentially life changing trip at the end of their high schooling.

Darren Wallace runs our Youth Exchange program and he is now looking for host families for our in-bound exchange student, Willis Cheng from Taiwan  (Taoyuan City, near Taipei).  This is a very rewarding experience for host families and I would encourage you to discuss this possibility with your partner.

Peter Clucas and his social committee have organised our Club Social function for 6.30pm Saturday 7th May at the Country Club (golf club at Lake Albert).  This function will be partially funded by the Club.  Please bring your partners along to this get together as we know many partners enjoy meeting up with each other and club members outside of Rotary Duty.  Peter will require final numbers at next week's meeting.

'Rotarian of the Year', Paul Murray will be conducting a Club Runner training program at 5pm Wed May 11th for Directors and all committee chairs to show people how to upload key information (documents, procedures, committee notes etc) to our website for future reference.

Tim Barter PHF

President Geoff, Tim friends and Family at his Paul Harris Fellow presentation.

Tim Barter – PHF
As members know, from time to time our club awards a PHF in recognition of an individual who has made a significant contribution to their local community.  Paul Harris of course was the founder of Rotary in 1905.
Tim has been selected as a Paul Harris Fellow because our Rotary Club, Wollundry believes his commitment and dedication to community projects exemplifies the humanitarian and educational objectives of the Rotary Foundation.
As many would know Tim joined Wollundry 6 years ago and quickly attached himself to the F & W committee working with Kevin Roben’s understudy to take on the Chair role when Kevin moved on.
He has also taken on the Festival organisation for the Gears and Beers.
Tim is also an active cyclist and is a keen supporter of Wagga’s Bike Trail initiative.
We  asked Jo Carlisle, Tim’s Daughter Danielle and grandaughter Ashlyn to join us.
Also three of Tim’s cycling mates attended to experience this great moment.
Tim - we thank you for your hard work and effort in all that you do for Wollundry and the Community.
It was with great pleasure President Geoff presented Tim with the three emblems of a Paul Harris Fellow:  The certificate, lapel pin and medallion.
Memberscongratulated Tim as our newest PHF.
