Wollundry Rotary has had a Facebook page for quite some time, however it has been under-worked and under-fed. Fortunately, Danial Burns, IT guru and member of the Website and Communications Committee, has volunteered to help with the it's care and feeding. Thank you Daniel.
All members are encouraged to click on the Facebook Icon on your left, and checkout, and contribute to our page.

Willis Cheng
Willis is our exchange student and he appears to be settling in quite well! Don't forget to invite him if you have an event or a trip planned!
President Geoff began the meeting with congratulations to our “new: councillor, Greg Conkey. Everyone in the room concurred with a round of applause.
As we had no guests or visitors, he went on to congratulate the efforts of Travis Downie for the wonderful result with Beyond Bank, as reported later in this bulletin. Read on!!
Willis gave his weekly round up and told us of the meal deal at Burmo’s place, along with Paul and Carolyn Murray and several of Burmo’s friends. It was a great meal, and he commented on Graham’s fantastic garden. ( not the cooking?)
Willis will be free all this week and is soon on school holidays. Be sure to include him where you can. John Hawkins or Darren Wallace will put you in the right direction.
John Gray has returned from a short venture into Cambodia, and he and John Flynn, fresh from a holiday stint at the Gold Coast, were welcomed back.
President Geoff continued on by informing us of proposed changes to the Scholarship funds. These are to be increased from $6000 to $7500 and $500 to $750 respectively. Peter Green proposed the motion and Michael Knight second it. There was a unanimous positive show of hands. Davis Pyke as treasurer outlined some of the commitments and funds that are available to see those off.
Hugh Campbell has been given 6mths leave of absence, due to work commitments, and Peter Crozier has stepped in as Projects chair.
There is a move to have more Vocational visits, and several very interesting ideas have come forward.
“Did you know that the Transfer Recognition request form can be downloaded from www.rotary.org “.
There are many Rotary acronyms. We are involved with RYLA, RYPEN, RYDA, NSF, ARH,and the list goes on even further.
Today PP Greg Conkey told us of RAMS. Rotarians Against Malaria was begun by the Chatswood Club, and has provided insecticide dipped sleeping nets to some of the world 3.2 billion effected people. It is the biggest health problem spread the widest in the world. The Club has raised some $1.6 million since it began the programme. The demise of DDT has seen a huge upswing in the incidence of this mosquito born problem. Thin eggshells showed it to be environmentally risky, and consequently its use was banned. An effective weapon was lost.
He also mentioned his disgust and distrust of the voting system. You see, he was awarded 1100 votes, but he has met 3210 people who swear they put him first!!
Gears and Beers Update
Phil Macintosh gave us a detailed summary of the Gears and Beers festival that is coming up on the long weekend. From all accounts it will be a huge success, with set up to begin on Saturday afternoon. An enormous amount of work has gone into this and the team is to be congratulated. We even have caps and bags donated for each participant. Phil will distribute our running booklets next meeting, but some things to remember in the meantime include getting water for the riders and be sure to have your HiVis vests with you.
The Forrest Centre Appeal
Doug Conkey is looking for helpers at the Golf Day on October 14th. This is in support of the Forrest Centre’s Palliative Care centre. If you can help can you please contact Doug as soon as you can.
If you’d like to play, its $50 and you get two free golf balls (should get some of us half way round!!)
An Invite from Riding for the Disabled.
Penny Lamont on behalf of the R.D.A. Fundraising Committee has contacted Wollundry Rotary to announce a Black Tie and Boots fundraising ball is to be held on Saturday October 15th. She is hoping we may be able to organise groups of 10 people. The cost for the evening is $165 per head. Please contact Bob Willis if you can attend and support this very worthwhile cause.
Sergeant.
David Benn was in uniform this time around. Conventional fines sawLaurie Blowes go down for seeking out, Greg Conkey for finally being reelected, even Phil Macintosh for too much media exposure. Willis was caught chasing Pokomons as was Darren Wallace. Anyone going to Henty, or the FaceBook seminar in Young did not escape, and after an extremely tense game of heads n tails the record breaking session finally drew to a close. Great fun. The fines were donated to Beyond Blue as David has had to cancel his bonfire quite a few times. But the barbecue/bonfire it will be on…when it stops raining!!

Travis Downie is to be congratulated on having his Defribultor project recognised by Beyond Bank. Each year the Bank makes funds available to community groups who show great initiative with community projects, and this year Travis was chosen to receive $15,000. Well done Travis. A great project recognised widely.
A large group of Wollundry members was there to give him support
A Wheel Meal Event
Burmo hosted his wheel meal event last week. Willis really enjoyed the company, and the garden out there on the Wantabadgery road.
