President James opened our meeting with Grace and welcomed all our many visitors who included our guest speaker Miles Smith, Gerry Cross visiting Rotarian from Canterbury in Melbourne, Greg Ewings, Steve Hodgson (Riverina BMW) Ellie Webb (Country Hope), B. Wiscombe.
After giving his report, James invited Dave Foster to the podium. Being winter it seemed unusual but okay that he was wearing a beanie, but all was revealed when he said he had been dared to shave his head by Geoff Hamilton to meet his donation to Dave of $1000 fo.r the Leukemia foundation.
The result - a pretty sight? or not? you decide

FOOD AND WINE PRESENTATION
Steve Hodgoson (Riverina BMW major sponsor), Ellie Webb (Country Hope), and David Pyke (Chair Food and Wine) holding the cheque for $40,000 presented to Country Hope from Wollundry Rotary.
Chairman of the Food and Wine Festival Committee David Pyke presented the cheque to Country Hope representative Ellie Webb and in doing so praised Country Hope for the magnificent work they do with children with cancer and their families. David thanked all those who made the festival a success again in particular the Rotary Club of Wollundry members and the Committee who have worked hard, not only this year, but in prior years to make the festival such a success. He also thanked the volunteers from Country Hope who assisted as well as volunteers from other recipient organisations in the past. Thanks also to BMW who have been a major sponsor yet again.
From 2009 to 2019 Wollundry Rotary has distributed $441,000 to local organisations, proceeds of the food and wine festival.

Ellie Webb, on behalf of Country Hope thanked Wollundry for the generous donation. The funds will be used to assist children and families in a variety of ways. Already this year there are 8 more families being assisted with the average per year being seventeen families.

BMW Riverina owner Steve Hodson added his endorsement to Ellie's words and praised the new venue at the Victory Memorial Gardens.

FARMERS MARKET AND SERGEANT
John Flynn had a dual role today and extracted a good amount of money from the relatively small number of members attending today's meeting. He stayed away from the Jewish jokes but perhaps he should return to that rich store. Maybe Annette has hidden the book again?

John was Farmers Market OIC and had the following excellent team:
David Byfield, Nick Leywood, Kerry Pascoe, Rob Pearson, David Post, Jeremy Reithmuller, Craig Bellamy, Ken Taylor, Paul Murray, Peter MacKinnon, Adrian Whiting and Bob Willis.
  • Stalls    $1,630
  • Gate      $  362
  • B/cue    $  480
  • Less ex  $ 144
  • Banked $2,328
Any guesses on the identity of the visitor pictured on the right?

A LETTER FROM CHINA

Burmo in China surrounded by local school students. Here is what he had to say:
Letter to Bulletin Editor
Today we are visiting and talking to this beautiful mountain school ‘s pupils.
I have always subscribed to the view that mountain people all over the world relate to each other and the one group we next relate to are those from the outback and desert.
City, plains, coastal and town people relate better with the same as them all over the world.
The students were curious and beside wanting to practise their English , and correct their pronunciation, were keen to ask questions , within the expected correctness, about Oz.

I enjoyed their company very much , their natural shyness and curiosity. It was a joy.

MaYan and I will enbus in a local bus down the mountain. The irony is that although MaYan speaks four languages fluently  ( including Northern dialect AnHui and Mandarin) and understands two other languages she refuses point blank to learn Southern dialect. So we both will have to use our wits and sign language to get back to SuSong ( a small town of 1 million). It is going to be hilarious.
