A Drought Project

Geoff Breust came to the podium and discussed how he went to Forbes and caught up with a few local Rotarians and the drought was discussed. The discussion came up with the idea of Farm Sitting … to give farmers a respite.  The idea would be Rotarians physically farm sitting to look after the farm to let farmers have a break.  Also, a rural counsellor would be involved to help identify families that would benefit from this service.  Geoff said he came back with the idea of some funds and volunteers who would be interested.  It would happen in November and December and Geoff would send an email to members to assess viability of such a scheme.

Rotary Information

Rick Priest said he had no Rotary information but he did update members on a petrol app he mentioned last week.  He asked Paul Murray to give his opinion on the app and Paul said the reviews had been rather unsupportive giving it a 2 out of five and he had problems with it due to the fact that his regular CalTex station would not accept the app.  As a result he couldn't accurately test it.  It might be a while until local CalTex petrol stations accept the app.

On a personal note, Rick has inlaws visiting from Russian and is in need of a Russian interpreter and Michael Knight volunteered the information.  Rick said that as Rotary Information Rotary members were a valuable source of community knowledge. Rick is looking for a replacement for OIC for the next market.

Drought Appeal

David Benn announced the Wollundry representatives (Stuart Heriot, Geoff Breust, Tim Hutchings, John Ireland, and David Post). David thought Geoff’s idea was a good way to help the farmers experiencing the drought. All clubs are autonomous and come up with their own ideas to help deal with the drought.  If clubs do not have an idea, of course, there is RAWCS and the Channel 9 appeal.
