Riverina Water Goes Neutral
Our guest speaker today was Andrew Crackenthorp
Andrew, one of our own members, is chairman of Riverina Water, which is heavily dependant on electricity to move water around the city and to run the purification plants. Recently they won an award for the most improved Water Supply Utility in the state which was a big achievement
They have decided to become carbon neutral within the next 10 years, and have bought land to establish a Solar Array which will cover 5 acres. This will more than supply the current needs of the plant and coupled with a 5MgW battery system will be able to operate all year round. He reckons that will cut down some 9000 tonnes of CO2 emissions, and hopefully stabilise the climate to some degree. Eventually they will have electric heavy vehicles as well, and not into the distant future. These are already operating in other areas
